چکیده

Abstract Annual population changes of most grouse, including the imperiled Attwater's prairie-chicken Tympanuchus cupido attwateri, are driven by annual reproductive success. Previous research identified poor survival chicks as a primary bottleneck for recovery this species. We evaluated relative importance 26 factors in 5 categories (weather and topography, habitat, plant phenology, time site, hen characteristics) on brood to 2 wk posthatch (the period when chick mortality is highest) number per at 6 (when capable independent survival). Factors with support predicting included invertebrate dry mass, ordinal date, an index maximum photosynthetic activity vegetation from multispectral imagery, proportion locations within areas treated suppress red imported fire ants Solenopsis invicta. Broods were likely survive if they hatched between early late May located 1) that ants, 2) where produced intermediate values index, 3) supported high biomass. The surviving was best predicted nonlinear relationship drought during first posthatch, it maximized average indicated moderately depleted soil moisture, but not severe drought. Our finding after hatch had more than did entire emphasizes prairie-chickens. This comprehensive analysis affecting provides valuable information guide management efforts

Factors Affecting Daily Nest Survival of Burrowing Owls Within Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Colonies

Identifying environmental parameters that influence probability of nest predation is important for developing and implementing effective management strategies for species of conservation concern. We estimated daily nest survival for a migratory population of burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia) breeding in black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) colonies in Wyoming, USA. We compared esti...

Some factors affecting survival in systemic blastomycosis.

T he finding of over 200 proved cases of blastomycosis in the state of Kentucky has aflorded interesting material to study the survival rates and factors affecting survival rates in this systemic fungus disease. The question of survival in blastomycosis is still subject to some controversy since in the original series reported by Martin and Smith1 of 117 cases in 1939, some 92 per cent of whom ...

Factors affecting survival in juvenile systemic sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES To determine whether demographic, clinical and immunological features may predict the outcome in juvenile SSc (JSSc). METHODS Clinical and laboratory characteristics of patients with JSSc collected from paediatric rheumatology centres worldwide were analysed. First, univariate tests identified those features significantly related with fatal outcome, and then multivariate logistic r...
